ABSTRACT
With the lack of centralized power
grids, lead acid batteries have taken the place of one of the main energy
source available in developing countries. With this in mind, our objective was
to design and construct a cheap, versatile and efficient lead acid car battery
charger which will interest and appeal to the cost minded customer. For
extended battery and charger life, a protection circuit was incorporated to
prevent the flow of excessive current which often result to damages in devices.
The result of this design and construction was achieved through a regulated
supply, protection circuit and switching circuit coupled to a charger circuit.
Light emitting diode was used to indicate the status of the battery been
charged.
