ABSTRACT
Rechargeable batteries need to be recharged to
maintain their output voltages and to improve their current supply. To achieve
this, a battery charger is employed. The purpose of a battery charger is to
deliver power (power supply) to charge the battery. Since rechargeable
batteries come in various capacities and voltages, the need for a battery
charger that will meet these specifications arises. The battery charger was
designed using a transformer with a 60v output, two bridge rectifier, a voltage
regulator (LM317A), and a comparator IC (LF 357A) all coupled together to give
the desired result of good line and load regulation with variable output
voltage and variable output current. The battery charger was test6d using a 12V
lead acid battery with initial battery voltage of 10.2 V. atter charging for
about 4 hours, the final battery voltage increased to 14.4 V indicating that
the battery charger was efficient.
