ABSTRACTS
This work was carried
out to determine the J3-lactamase production of antibiotic resistance
Staphylococcus aureus from mat product product in Umudike. A total of fifty
(50) meat samples were collected from meat sellers in Umudike using sterilized
sample containers and cultured on media plates, the plates were duplicated then
incubated at 37°C for 24 to 48 hours. A total of 16 Staphylococcus aureus were
isolated from meat samples sold around Umudike. The isolates were identify by
their cultural morphology, Gram's reaction, biochemical reaction and DNA test.
From the result the highest frequency of sample with staphylococcus aureus
occurs in suya 7 (70) % while the lowest occurs in chicken with the frequency
of 0(0.0) %. The antibiotic susceptibility profile of Staphylococcus aureus
isolates was carried out using different antibiotic. The results showed that
all the isolates were resistance to Ceftazidime, Cefuroxine,Cefexine and
Augement 100%. While susceptibility was high to Levofloxacin,Ethromycin,
Ofloxacin and Gentamicin was 85.7% and 83.39%. Beta lactamase production among
the isolates was highest in pork with 6 (100%).
