ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude of male pre-service teachers towards the teaching profession. This study was conducted in College of Agriculture and Science Education, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike. Four research question guided the study. The population of the study was made up of 120 students of the College which comprised 300 level arid 400 level students. The sample consists of 95 students which was designed using the Likert Scale Model and validated by the research supervisor and two other experts in measurement and evaluation. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach apha which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.73. This was administered to a simple randomized sample of 95 students drawn from the population of 120 students. Research question were analyzed using mean scores and standard deviation. The results of the analyzed data revealed that male pre-service teacher do riot make education their first choice when filling Joint Admission and Matriculation Board forms. Based on the findings it was recommended that secondary educational management board should organized youth summits for secondary school students for re-orientation on education and teaching profession.
