Application Of Accounting Ratio As A Tool For Inter-Company Comparison Of Performance (A Case Study Of Texaco And AIP Nigeria Plc)
ABSTRACT
Companies incorporated under companies and Allied Matters Decree (CAMD) 1990 is required to publish some accounts in theirs financial statement which includes the balance sheet, the profit and loss account o the income statement and the source and application of funds statement. The management, creditors, investors and general public use information contained in these financial statement to form an opinion about the operating performance and financial position by the application of accounting ratio, otherwise known as ratio analysis. Proper analysis of the information contained in the financial statement (F.S) can give a clearer insight into the financial strength or weakness of a firm by users of the F.S. The purpose of applying accounting ratios is not only appilcable for managements internal control, but also for better understanding of the financial strength of the firm and to make the best use of the resources available, as well as to pin point the financial weakness of the firm, as to take a corrective measures.
