ABSTRACT

 A total of three different Dental Powder (Dr Agnes Nwanma, Jalin and Supadent ) were tested for their antimicrobial sensitivity against Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans using Kirby- baur disc diffusion method. Various concentrations ranging from 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50mg/mi were made. The result of the antimicrobial showed that Dr Agnes Nwanma dental powder showed zone of inhibition on Candida albicans ranging from l2rnm-15mm, Jalin tooth powder showed zone of inhibition ranging from lOmm-l3mm while Supadent dental powder had no antimicrobial effect on Candida albicans. Dr Agnes Nwanma dental powder also showed greater zone of inhibition on Streptococcus mutans ranging from 1 8-25mm, Jalin tooth powder had no zone of inhibition and Supadent dental powder also showed no zone of inhibition on Streptococcus mutans. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) showed zone antimicrobial activity at lowest concentration against Streptococcus mutans while Candida albicans showed little or no inhibition. The Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) exhibited by the dental powder against some bacterial isolate showed growth of both Organisms for Jalin tooth powder and Supadent dental powder while Dr Agnes Nwanrna Dental Powder showed scanty growth on the Bacterial Isolate. This result implies that Dr Agnes Nwanma dental powder has provrn to be more effective and therefore posses antibacterial properties in inhibitin oral thish or dental caries in human.
