ABSTRACT
The antimicrobial activities of Moringa
oleifera leaves and seeds were tested in vitro using disc diffusion method. The
minimum inhibitory concentration determination against human· pathogenic
organisms was also determined. At the concentration of 1 00mg/ml, the extracts
potential activity against: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salomone/la typhi, Candida
albican, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were tested. The ethanolic
extracts· of the leaves and seed exhibited inhibitory effect on Salomonella
typhi, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli respectively. The zones of
inhibition for ethanol extracts of leaves ranged from 12mm-20mm while that of
seeds ranged from 9mm-l5mm. The aqueous extract for leaves and seed ranged from
7mm-10mm and 8mm-1 lmm. The consequences of this investigation suggest that the
leaves and seeds of Moringa oleifera can be used to discover antimicrobial
agent for developing new pharmaceuticals to control human pathogenic organisms
responsible for illness.
