ABSTRACT
The antimicrobial activities of ethanol and cold water extracts of Heinsia crinita on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans were carried out. Ethanol and cold water extracts of the test plants showed inhibition of the three test organisms. The ethanol extract of Heinsia. crinita profoundly inhibited the growth of S. aureus, E.coli and C. albicans with inhibition zone diameter being 13.9mm, 10.3mm and 7.6mm. The cold water extract of H. crinita inhibited the growth of S. aureus, E. coli and C. albicans with diameter zone of inhibition being 10.6mm, 8.8mm and 6.9m. This revealed that H. crinita have antimicrobial activities on S. aureus, E. coli and C. albicans and probably could be used to control infections associated with these organisms.
