ABSTRACT

 The study analysis the issue ofunemployment and inflation in Nigeria within the period of1981 to 2017. Secondary method of data collection was usedto generate data for this study. The objective ofthe study is to examine and investigate the impact of unemployment and inflation rate on economic growth in Nigeria. And to empirically investigate if there is a long-run relationship between unemployment and inflation rate on Nigeria economy. The study employs unit root test, ordinary least square(OLS) and Johansen Co-integration test techniques in its estimation. The variables used in the study include unemployment rate (UNEMP), inflation rate (INF), and government expenditure (GEXP) as the independent variables and real gross domestic product (RGDP) are the dependent variable. The data on these variables were sourced from Central Bank ofNigeria (CBN) and National Bureau ofStatistics(NBS) statistical bulletin 2O18.The unit root test result revealed that only RGDP is integrated of order 0, 1(0), unemployment rate (UNEMP), inflation rate (INF), and government expenditure (GEXP) are all integrated oforder 1, 1(1). Thus it wasfound that unemployment and inflation rate does not have any impact on economic growth in Nigeria. Also there exist a long run relationship between unemployment, inflation and economic growth. From the result, the study recommended that since unemployment and inflation rate has no impact in the economy, the government should increase its expenditure in order to increase economic growth
