ABSTRACT
The specific
objective of this study was to establish the extent to which computer literacy
amongst academic librarians affect faculty members' satisfaction with
information services in university libraries. The population of this study
composed of 112 librarians and 4469 lecturers in eleven (11) universities in
South-East Zone ofNigeria. The research design used was a combination
ofdescriptive survey and linear correlation. Two (2) researchermade rating
scales were usedfor data collection. Thefirst ofthese instruments is “Rating
Scale for Librarians ’ Computer Literacy in University Libraries ” while the
second is called “Rating Scale for Lecturers' Satisfaction with Information
Services in University Libraries Census sampling was applied in choosing librarians
while stratified random sampling technique was used to select respondentsfrom
the lecturers' sub-stratum. Out of the 447 and 112 copies ofresearch instrument
administered, 87 and 366 copies were returned by librarians and lecturers,
respectively giving a total return-rate of 81.0%. Descriptive and inferential
statistics was used for data analysis. The Spearman Rank Correlation was used
to ascertain the strength of the relationship between the independent and
dependent variables. Resultsfrom the correlation coefficient ofthe two
variables showed that there is a strong andpositive relationship between
academic librarians' computer literacy and the satisfaction derived by
lecturersfrom services receivedfrom the sampled university libraries. Several
recommendations were made, including provision of regular computer training for
librarians, employment of competent computer technicians and adequatefunding.
