The Use Of Garlic (Allium Sativum) In The Treatment Of Coccidiosis In Rabbits
ABSTRACT
The mode of therapeutic action of
garlic in rabbit coccidiosis using comparism technique has been studied. Daily
feacal analysis of the rabbit with sub-clinical coccidiosis using mc master
technique showed a progressive increase in the number of oocyst excreted per
gram of feaces from 260-950 and 350-960 respectively. When the rabbits were
treated, the number of oocyst dropped from 950-20 and 960 - 20 respectively.
The data was analyzed using ANOVA statistical analysis and the result showed
that there were no significant difference between the two treatments (the use
of garlic and commercial drug i.e. Ancoban(amprolium 20%) at 0.05% level of
significance. The rabbit treated with garlic tend to be more active and
responded well than rabbits treated with Ancoban (amprolium 20%). The local
made garlic is easy and cheap to obtain/process than the commercial
drug-Ancoban (amprolium 20%).One mortality was recorded while post mortem
findings revealed intestinal coccidiosis, which was caused by Eimeria
