ABSTRACT

The purpose of writing on this topic Audit and Fraud Control Techniques in Nigeria Commercial Banks is to bring out the various ways by which audit helps in the prevention of the fraud in commercial banks. Audit and Fraud control techniques employed by Mainstreet Bank is effective. Top management staffs are mainly responsible for fraud in Commercial bank. Banks should use internal and external auditors to ensure that account is accurate. Adequate care in opening account for new customers and adequate legitimate operation ofsuch account. Caring for the welfare of staff to ensure that employees do not unduly suffer from financial distress. The work of an employee should be cross checked by another more experienced person. Banks should have strong securities for valuable document. Banks should reduce the volume of work given to officers because if the work is much, fraud could easily pass undetected. Banks should balance all the books use in a day transaction. Banks should design various job schedules that no staff should be the originator and the end of a transaction. Based upon the finding ofthis research, itis dear that fraudis so organized in the fabric ofsociety, that it cannot be totally eliminated as long as society exist. As part of the society, banking will always experience fraud as in other section of the economy. The following recommendations are made for the control of fraud. Bank should take appropriate treatment of suspects. The way suspects are treated affected the incidence of fraud. Bank should use dose circuit television, surveillance camera in banking halls and other sensitive area ofoperation
