The Effect Of Exchange Change Control On The Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market In Nigeria From 1992 To 2005.
ABSTRACT
The foreign exchange market in
Nigeria is constitutionally operated under the regulative measures put in place
by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The autonomous foreign exchange market
operate parallel to the official foreign market and in most cases the operate
without restriction by the regulative measures put in place by the Central bank
of Nigeria. The study adopted multiple regression analysis in analyzing its
data which is based only in secondary data. The effect of exchange rate was
tested on inflation rate, external reserve and balance of payment. The analyzed
data indicated that the official exchange rate has no significant effect on the
above variable tested. It is hoped that the findings from this study would
contribute generally to knowledge as well as be used by policy makers in
planning and implementation of programmes designed to positively affect the
foreign exchange market in Nigeria.
