ABSTRACT

The performance and feed cost of finisher broi1rs fed diets supplemented with organic acid and/or multi-enzyme was conducted using 120 four-week old finisher broilers. The broilers were assigned randomly to four treatment diets T1 , (control) T2(citric acid), T3(multi-enzyme) and T4 (citric acid + multi-enzyme). Each treatment was replicated three times with ten birds per replicate in a completely randomized design (CkD). The parameters measured were final live weight, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, protein intake, protein efficiency ratio, feed cost, carcass quality and organ characteristics and heamatology. The result showed that, there was significant difference (P <0.05) in the values of broiler final weight in T4 (1617.67g) against T3 (1473.67g) and control (1211.27g). There was also a significant (P<0.05) difference in the values obtained for daily feed intake of broilers in T4(108.33g) against the control (87.98g). The feed cost was significantly (P < 0.05) higher with T4(N286, 59) than that of T2(N 278, 64) and control (N 237, 79). The result also showed that there was a significant difference (P <0.05) in the cost per kg weight gain of the broilers in T4having the lowest value of N266, 30 and control (Ti) having the highest value of N 376, 79. The dressed percentage in T4was significantly (P<0.05) higher with broilers in T4 (75.02%) more than other treatments. The conclusion was that finisher broiler diets should be supplemented with multi-enzyme + citric acid to improve broiler performance and carcass quality.
