ABSTRACT

Studies on solid waste generation, composition, management and disposal were carried out at Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Nigeria, from 10th January to 10 June 2013. The University'was divided into five sections namely Administrative block, hostels, r ed between the quantities of wastes at different waste' collection location and at the various waste collection periods. .2013) were not significantly different, organic waste, and glass waste had significantly the highest and least quantities respectively. Organic had 24.6%, plastics 18%. metal 8%, glass 2.8% and miscellaneous 16.4%. The areas, medical centre and engineering used to identify types of wastes generated at the , various locations. The wastes were categorized into five types, organic, plastics, paper, glass, metal and miscellaneous. Thirty kilogram (30kg) of solid wastes from the different locations were collected, sorted into these five types and weighed. The quantities of various types of wastes were recorded for six months.
