ABSTRACT

The topic of this project is on RevenueGenerationand ExpenditureSystem in Local Governmentin Abia State: Challenges and Prospects. The study also examined that the problems and challenges of local governments  of  Abia  State  in  their revenue generation  and expenditure system is  the shortage of  well-trained, qualified and competent personnel Such personnel which supposed to serve as a tool for collection of taxes and rates at the local governments are nottemployed in the system due to theirpoor sala,y scale. Thereare noprofessionals in the local government system who would car,y and conduct  economic planning;  and worst stilt   local  governments finances are being controlledby state governors. The population of this  study is hundred people from AruchukwuLocal Government Council while the samplesize for the study is BO.  The instruments used in collecting the data are the questionnaireand oval interview. Hypotheses were formulated and tested with chi-square statistical technique. The findings in in this study revealedthat the use of appropriate machine,y in  the  collection of  revenue will  greatly increase the revenue accruingto the local governments. Besides the inability of local governments to attract and retain quality manpower may affect its operation
