ABSTRACT
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of replacing maize with cassava peel meal supplemented with palm oil on the performance of turkey poults. The design of this work was completely randomised design. Poults were assigned into six treatments containing twelve (12) poults. Each treatment was replicated trice. Experimental diet was formulated using Cassava peal meal to replace maize at 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%. The experiment lasted for eight weeks. Brooding of the turkey poults was carried out for the first three weeks. The rearing covered the period 5-8 weeks in which the birds were fed with treatment diets and water supplied ad libituni. The result obtained form this study showed that dietary treatment had significant effect (p>O.OS) on the. feed in take. Final weight, the final weight was higher in turkey fed diet 4(836.32g ) with 60% cassava peel meal and least in diet 3 (781.81g) with 40% cassava peel obtained in turkey fed diet 4(14.06g) and least value gotten from those fed diet 3 (13.08g). there was significant difference (p<O.OS) on the dressed weight, thigh, gizzard + proventriculus, kidney, spleen, lung, intestine, dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, ash, carbohydrate, and nitrogen free extract. The dressed weight was significantly higher (p<O.OS) in birds fed diet 4 (57.46%) and least in those fed diet 2 (43.73%). The crude protein was significantly higher (p<0.05)on birds feed diet 3 (32.73) and least on those of diet 5 (27.30).the study showed that substituting maize with cassava peel meal up to 100 percent did not exert any adverse effect on the growth performance, cut-parts and internal organ proportion of total turkey, however, for better result in terms of growth performance, cut-part characteristics and organ proportion, this study recommend 60 percent replacement of maize with cassava peel meal supplement with oil for better efficiency and productivity.
