ABSTRACT
Forage and Pasture crops are growth
primarily for farm animals. They are either grazed directly by livestock in the
field or cut and carry. They can be processed into hay or silage before fed to
livestock, (Komolafe et al, 1980). A pasture is sown with grasses or legumes or
a mixture of both. Grasses and legumes to be conserved' for hay or silage are
harvested during the early bloom stage of growth because they have high
digestible crude protein and total digestible nutrient. The crop
i1utri"nts decrease with maturity. Also, at a very early stage, the energy
and protein of the fodder are very high but the dry of the fodder per unit area
is very low. At the later stage's when the crop is in full born, the protein
value goes down and the digestibility of nutrients is also reduced. The total
dry matter is increased. (Obua , 2005)
