ABSTRACT
The study investigated the
post-harvest technology dissemination in plantain production among rural women
in Anaocha L.G.A. of Anambra State. A total of one hundred (100) randomly
selected women farmers constituted the sample size for the study. Structured
questionnaire was designed and use to elicit relevant information. Frequency
distribution and Liker -type scale were used in analyzing the data. The
improved post-harvest technologies identified include: medicinal value, fried
chips, flour, weaning food (SOYAMUSA) and livestock feed, while the most
popular indigenous post-harvest technologies include: sun-dried ~ . chips,
boiled and roasted plantain. The result of the study shows that the
technologies have been adopted in their order of importance as follows:
medicinal value, fried chips flour. The indigenous post-harvest technolpgies
used . . are: sun-dried chips, boiled plantain, roasted plantain, plantain
porridge, plantain fufu, plantain pudding. Based on the findings of the study
recommended that theLocal Government extension agent should give more attention
and better assistance to post-harvest technologies in plantain products. This
can be achieved by diffusing innovations on new post harvest technologies in
plantain production and carrying out educative programmers on the various farms
or technologies in which plantain can be utilized. This will increase farmer's
ability and willingness to adopt innovation.
