Performance Of Starter Broiler Feed Diets Containing Organic Acid (Menacid®) Additive.
ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to determine the effects of Menacid ( a blend of organic acids) on the
performance of starter broiler chickens. The effect was measured using growth performance and
economics of production. Three dietary treatments were generated by the addition of Menacid®
at 0, 0.5mg and 0.8mg/kg of feed formulated. The diets were fed as mash in the starter phase (d
0-21) in a completely randomized design(CRD) experiment . Ninety day old chicks were
randomly allocated to the 3 dietary treatments each having 3 replicates with 10 birds per
replicate.Each replicate was housed in a pen measuring in CRD. Birds fed diets supplemented
with Menacid®had similar (P>0.05) average daily weight gain,feed conversion ratio and protein
efficiency ratio as with the control group. It was therefore concluded that the addition of
Menacid® in broilers diets may not be of any immediate advantage since it did not improve feed
efficiency and nutrient utilization at the different dietary inclusion levels.
