ABSTRACTS

 An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of EL-ROX feed additive supplementation on the performance of finisher broilers. One hundred and twenty 4week old broilers were used in the experiment. The experimental design was completely randomized design (CRD). There were four treatments with each treatment replicated three times. Each replicate had IO birds. The experimental diets had the inclusion of EL-ROX 0%, 0.2%,0.4%,and 0.6% for treatments 1,2,3, and 4 respectively. The parameters measured were, final live weight, total feed intake, protein intake, haematology, carcass and organ characteristics and the feed cost. Protein efficiency ratio and feed conversion ratio were calculated. Results showed that there were no significant (P>0.05) differences in all the parameters measured except for the final live weight where broilers fed diet T4 (1376.66g) were significantly higher than Tl (1246.66g) and T2 (1223.33g), while T3 (1143.33g) had the lowest value. There were also significant (P< 0.05) differences in the total feed cost T4 (#353.43) was significantly (P< 0.05) higher than T3 (#326.17), and T2 (#298.65), while TI (#271.06) had the least value. For total weight gain T4 (9821.67g), were significantly (P< 0.05) higher than T2 (730.00g), Tl (713.33g) while T3 (590.00g) had the least value. For cost per kg weight gain, broilers fed diet T4 (#102.79), were significantly higher than T3 (#97.97), T2 (#86.79), while Tl (#78.79), had the lowest value. The results showed that the treatment 4 had the best performance in terms of live weight, protein efficiency ratio, and weight gain. It was concluded that EL-ROX feed additives supplemented at 0.6% gave the best performance in terms oflive weight gain.
