ABSTRACT
This study
examined the Perceived influence of students’ indiscipline on the school
adjustment ofsecondary school students in Aba education zone of Abia State,
Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. A sample of 465
respondents which is made up of 85 teachers and 393 students drawn from a
population of 3,095 teachers and students (made up of 2,879 students and 216 teachers)
in the schools in the 9 local government areas of Aba education zone, during
the 2020 -2021 academic year was used for the study. The sample however,
represented 15% ofthe entire population ofteachers and students ofthe
population. The sample was arrived at using multi stage sampling procedure. The
instrument for data collection was a 20-item researcher developed questionnaire
titled: “Perceived Influence of Students Indiscipline on school adjustment
Questionnaire (PISISAQ). The face validation ofthe instrument was carried out
by three experts while the internal consistency aspect of the reliability of
the instrument was determined using Cronbach alpha method which yielded an
overall index of 0.71. The data was collected by the researcher with the help
of four research assistants. Out of the 465 copies of the questionnaire
administered, 440 copies representing 95% of the entire instrument distributed
were returned and used for data analysis. Data collected were analyzed with
mean and standard deviation to answer the four research questions raised for
the study while t- test statistic was used to analyze the four null hypotheses
that guided the study at 0.05 level of significant. The study revealed among
others that indiscipline behaviours such as truancy, aggressiveness, and
bullying behaviours respectively influence school adjustment of senior
secondary school students to a very high extent.
