Abstract
The
organ weight and feed cost analysis of broiler chickens fed graded levels
ofboiled Mucucna slaonei supplemented with maxigrain® enzyme was invested,
using one hundred and twenty birds. The birds were allocated to four dietary
treatments, each treatment was replicated thrice and each replicate had ten
birds in a completely randomized design (CRD). Diet 2,3 and 4 contained boiled
Mucuna Sloanei supplemented with maxigrain® enzyme, at 10%, 20% and 30% levels
ofinclusion in place ofsoya bean respectively. The experiment lasted for
56days. Feed and water were given at ad-libitum. Organ weights and feed cost
analysis were measured. The proximate and gross energy of boiled mucuna sloanei
were as follow; CP (29.03%), EE (2, 13%), CF (7.29%), ASH (4.71%) M (7.95%) DM
(92.05%) AND GE (4.56Kcal/g). Boiled mucuna sloanei contained the following
anti-nutritional factors, such as; Hydrogen Cyanide (22.17mg/kg) L-Dopa (4,15%)
and Trypsin inhibitor (13.32TIU/mg). The organ weights showed significant
difference (P<0.05) for all the parameters measured except proventriculus.
T2 (1.94 and 1.93) compared favorably with T1 (0.59 and 1.35) for gizzard and
liver respectively. The feed cost analysis ofthe diet revealed that there was
no significant difference for cost/kg feed consumed only. T2 (N617.90) compared
favorably with T1 (N560.17), for cost/kg weight gained among others.
Conclusively, considering organ weights and feed cost analysis, especially
cost/kg weight gain, T2 (10% dietary level inclusion of boiled mucuna sloanei
in place of soyabean) compared favorably with T1 (control diet) and hence
recommended.
