ABSTRACT
A total of 6 lactating does
comprising three WAD (West African Dwarf) and three Red Sokoto goats of the
same parity were used for the experiment. Milk product ion was determined for
each animal afld monthly values used to compute the persistency and peak yield.
Peak production for the Iwo goats was at the 5' week of lactation. Mean
persistency (%) were 92.25 and 87.71 for WAD and Red Sokoto goats respectively,
these values did not differ (>0.05) significantly. The peak yields were
97.53and 59.7kg for Red Sokoto and West African Dwarf goats respectively. The
lowest milk production for Red Sokoto goat was recorded on the 3Id week (536.7g
) while that of WAD goat was recorded on the 2' week of production (394.3g), A
sharp drop in milk yield was noticed at the 6" week which however
stabilized in the 7t1i and 8th week. WAD goats had similar persistency with Red
Sokoto goats (P> 0.05).
