Influence Of Different Protein Sources On Performance Of Beef Bull Calves Reared In A Rain Forest Environment
ABSTRACT
Nine beef bull calves were used to investigate influence of different protein sources on performance of bull calves reared in a rain forest environment. The calves were randomly divided into three groups with three animals per group. The control bull calves were grazed without supplementation, T1 calves were grazed and supplemented 15% groundnut cake whileT2 calves were grazed and supplemented 15% soya bean meal. Results showed that at 90 days, control calves gained 20.08kg on the average, T1which was supplemented 15% groundnut cake Vgained 31.75kg while T2 which was supplemented 15% soybean meal gained 41 .83kg.This study therefore confirmed soya bean meal as a superior protein source for beef calf fattening.
