Abstract

 This study analyzed the importance offinancial accounting literacy on the growth ofSMEs in Abia state. The specific objectives are to; determine the impact offinancial accounting knowledge on the survival ofsmall and medium scale enterprises, ascertain the impact offinancial accounting behavior on the sales growth ofsmall and medium scale enterprise and examine the impact of financial accounting attitude on the profitability ofsmall and medium scale enterprises Data was analyzed using statistical tools ofSimple Linear Regression model and Statistical Package for Social Sciences in analzing the hypotheses. The followingfindings were made; i) there is positive and significant effect offinancial accounting knowledge on the survival ofsmall and medium scale enterprises, ii) there is positive and significant effect offinancial accounting behaviour on the of sales growth small and medium scale enterprises and Hi) there is positive and significant effect of financial accounting attitude on the profitability ofsmall and medium scale enterprises. The study recommended that the management should make adequate provisionsfor staffto be encouraged to embrace otherfinancial accounting developmental courses that could impact on their general performance and increase organizational performance, management should be sensitized on the importance ofsending the right employee on induction and training, a mechanism should be createdfor proper assessment and evaluation of employee performance after orientation and training and finally Seminars and workshops should be organizedfor the staffofSMEs in orderfor a proper understanding offinancial accounting.
