Impact Of Palm Oil And/Or Methionine Supplementation Of Composite Cassava Meal Based Diet On The Performance Of Starter Broilers
ABSTRACT
This experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of methionine and I or palm oil supplementation in composite cassava meal (0CM) based diets on the performance of starter broilers. Five diets were formulated and designated Ti, T2, T3, T4 and T5.The Ti was control, which neither contained 0CM, palm oil nor and methionine while others contained 0CM at 60% maize substitution. T2 contained 0CM only with neither palm oil nor methionine. T3 was supplemented with methionine only, T4 with palm oil supplementation and T5 with both methionine and palm oil. One hundred and fifty day old broiler chicks were randomly allocated to the various diets at thirty birds per treatment and each treatment was replicated inoAi0 birds per replicate. The effect of feeding the five diets to the starter broiler chicks on their final body weight, weight gain, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio followed an increasing pattern. Birds fed T4 and T5 had higher (p1<0.05) body weights and body weight gains (693 and 710 respectively) than birds fed T2 (52i), which was similar to those of birds fed Ti (698).and T3 (640) diets.
