ABSTRACT

The main objective of this study is the impact of internal control on the performance of manufacturing companies in Nigeria (A case study of Nigerian Breweries Aba plant. Abia state). The survey research design was adopted using questionnaire on a sample size of 40 to arrive at the data. It engaged the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) based on simple regression to analyse the work which on which it was observed that internal control has positive impact on fraud detection in manufacturing firms in Nigeria the study found out that internal control helps in minimizing fraud, also helps in effective management decisions, proper financial reporting, ensures effective and efficient use of resources. The hypothesis testing further confirms that internal control has significant impact on fraud detection and control o! manufacturing firms in Nigeria. From the findings of the study, it was concluded that internal control has significant impact on fraud detection and control, effective management decisions of manufacturing firms and financial reporting of manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Hence it was recommended that Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) should monitor and supervise manufacturing firms to ensure that the accountants comply with accounting regulations and requirement as provided by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants to ensure proper implementation and compliance with accounting standards and principles, organizations should develop a mechanism to incorporate relevant feedback from the various stakeholders into their internal control system; and also that the governing body ensure that the internal control system is periodical!) monitored and evaluated
