ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of haematological
and biochemical characteristics of West African dwarf (WAD) goat fed processed
dietary poultry droppings. Nine (9) WAD goats aged between + and 6 months with
average weight of •) 0kg were assigned to three treatment groups in a
completely randomized design experiment with 3 goats per treatment. The three
diets T1, Ta, and T s contained 0% (Ti) poultry dropping, 10% (Ta) sundried
poultry droppings. Date measured included daily weight changed daily feed
intake, Heart Girth Change (HGC) haematological and biochemical parameters.
Concentrate daily dry : matter intake were 184.65; 150.05g and 183.6..2g for
T1, T2, and T 3 respectively and showed lower (p<0.05) intake for the Ya
group than T1, T 3 groups. The forage daily dry matter intake were 494.04g, 569.70g
and 555.66g and this was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the T2 group than
T1, and T 3 groups HGC values of 5.67cm, 2.33cm and 4.67cm for T1, Ta, and T s
respectively was lower (p<O.05) in T2 group but the HWC values of 5.00cm,
4.67 cm and 4.00cm for T1, Ta, and T 3 respectively were 12.30g/dl. ll.30g/dl
and 12.0g/dl, 3:.0%, 34.0% and 36.0% for T, Ta, and T 3 respectively these v±iues
were consistently higher (p<O.05) in these values of 39.0 x 10°/mm? was
significantly (p<O.05) higher in Ta group than TL,and Ta. Neutrophil and
lymphocyte was higher I Ta than TI and T 3. Urea content of the blood were
61.0mg/ dl, 78.0mg/ dl and 79.0mg/dl for T1, T2, and Ta respectively and this
indicated lower (p<0.05) value for the T1 group than Ta and T3 groups. This
study showed that processed poultry droppings could be included up to 10% in
the diets of goats without adverse effect on the performance and physiological
functions of the animals. However, the sundried poultry dropping being a
straight forward processing method might be recommended.
