Form, Resistance To White And Brown Rot Fungi (Trametes Cingulata And Lentinus Lepideus Respectively) And Sapwood/Heartwood Contents Of Teak (Tectona Grandis) Poles From Trees Grown In Southern Nigeria
ABSTRACT
Teak (Tectona grandis) plantations established in three
locations (sites) in Southern Nigeria: Ukpom Bende Forest Reserve in Abia State
(Site 1), Oban Forest Reserve in Cross River State (Site 2) and Gambari Forest
Reserve in Oyo State (Site 3) were studied to determine form and sap wood and
heariwood contents of the poles from the plantations and their resistance to
white rot liiiu.us ( 'framck's w,gu/iIa), brown rot fungus (I,e-#,Ii,i,is
/epide,is) and contaminants. 'Free taper values varied significantly at 0.01 prol)ability
level (P 0.0 I) bet wecu the sites, but did not vary between individual trees
grown on each of the sites, There was significant relationship between
pole-taper and the pole-diameter. The r2values of the relationships for the
three sites were 0.20, 0.20 and 0.002 for sites I, 2, and 3 respectively. There
was significant relationship between taper and pole height. Merchantable [bum
