ABSTRACT

This research work examined the study of the control of finances in the ministry of finance Umuahia. The study was motivated by the necessity to establish the extent of financial control and accountability in public sector organization. Nigerian financial control and accountability in public sector organization is faced with a list of problem such asiate finalization and publication of account and poor keeping of internal accounting records. Inability to con lorni to financial rules, regulation ni 1(1 ii structioi is. Lack of knowledge and expertise among government account and financial controllers occupying higher levels of responsibilities. There main object of this study is to establish the extent of financial control and accountability in publish sector organization, o see that propelfinancial control system and accountability in Abia State ministry of finance are well practice, to eliminate inadequacy in the financial control system. To solve the research problem both primary and secondary data were collected. The research instrument used in collecting the data were questionnaires and oral interviews. The respondent comprised of personnel, contractors, suppliers and staff of the organization. In organizing and presenting data collected, table frequencies and percentages were used. The various hypotheses were tested using the chi-squarc include the findings. Base on the result and finding some recommendations were imiade which include; reviewing of internal control system, requirement and training of qualified workers improvement of working conditions of staff of the ministry
