Farmers' Adoption Of Improved Ginger Production Technologies In Abia State
ABSTRACT
A study on farmers' adoption of
improved ginger production technologies in Abia State, Nigeria was carried out
in the year 2006. The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent of
production of ginger by farmers in Abia State. A survey method was used for
collecting primary data from the field. The respondents comprised of 180
farmers, randomly selected from six local government areas in Abia State were
interviewed using interview schedule. Frequencies, percentages, classical
adoption model and multiple regression analysis were used to analyse the data
collected. The R2 (Coefficient of multiple determination) is 0.427 which means
that 42.7% of the variation is explained by the variables included in the
model. Household size, level of formal education and membership of cooperative
society were found to be significant determinants of adoption of improved
ginger production technologies. The overall result from the study revealed that
the adoption level of the technological package was above average with a grand
mean adoption score of 4.10.
