ABSTRACT

This study centers on the Evaluation of the use of Management Accounting Techniques in business Decision Making “(A CASE STUDY OF MGBAJIAKA INDUSTRIES LIMITED)”. The problems identified among others include some organizations do not employ qualified and competent workers who use these techniques to guide decision makers. The decision makers themselves (managers, MD. Etc) are all in hurry that they cannot afford to wait the processes of using these techniques to provide solutions to the decision makers problems. Still, some top officers of some organizations consider these techniques as mere book theories. The researcher wants to find out the use of these techniques in Business Decision making. Examples of the Management Accounting Techniques and the decision areas where they can be applied and the use of these techniques in business decision making can lead to better performance. To study the problems identified deeply and achieve the objectives of the research, research questions and hypothesis were drawn. The study followed descriptive and survey research approaches. The sampling methods applies were those of convenience, judgment and probabilistic methods. The sample size of 75 out of a population of 92 employees of the case study company was used. Data were collected through the instruments of questionnaire, oral interview, personal observation (for primary datq) and library system (for secondary data). The methods of data analysis employed involved the use of tables, percentages, contingent tables and Chi-square test statistic. It was discovered among others that forecasting Costs and Revenue Techniques and Cost -Volume-profit (where cost, quantity, price and profit variables aids are provided) are among the techniques and that the use of these techniques will encourage better performance. Based on the findings, the author strongly recommended for the application of these techniques in business decisionmaking. Areas of further research were also recommended. The researcher strongly believes that if the findings of this research and the recommendations are implemented better results will be achieved.
