ABSTRACT
The study was
conducted to assess and compare the conditions of slaughter and disposal of by-products
in both Arochukwu and umuahia township abbttoirs. The relevant data were
collected thi ouh q nestionnaires, is its to abattoirs, iiitcrvie's of'
personiicl, etc. i'he responses vere ana1v7'd using percentages, frequencies
and means. 'Two hypotheses were tested, one iclating to the a ailahil ty of
fact! Utes a rid the other to tle qua lily of vetermary inspection and
sanitation using 7.-test statistics. Both hvpothees, tested at PO.O ic\ ci of
sn iuicanec were found to he statistically non significant. Other parameters
studied in this work showed poor conditions in both ahattoirs eNcept fti the
location of Uniuriui a township ahaftoir, Lovcn the fact that it is — sited
away ibm residential am cas. A jekicatton of Arochiikwu abattoir is
icconimended. Modern facilities should be installed in both abattoirs. The
