Evaluation Of Economics Of Production Of Cross Bred Normal Feather, Naked Neck, Frizzle Feather Pullets In A Humid Tropical Environment
ABSTRACT
A total of 46-day-old pullet chicks were generated in four batches to evaluate effects of normal feather, naked neck (Na) and frizzle (FF) genes on growth performance of F 1 hybrid pullets. Results of the study showed that there were significant differences (P<0.05) at 4 to 6 weeks body weight for the birds with the frizzle chicks having higher body weight (199.05a ~8.21),(246.75a±6.67),(317.70a±11.00) Average feed intake and body weight was significantly different .The feed conversion ratio was lower for frizzle feather(2 .66±0.39), (3.05±0.29), (3.96±0.30) which indicated that the frizzle feathered birds were more feed efficient and gained more weight. Cost of production was significantly higher for frizzle feathered birds (N606. 12~ 19.06), Naked neck (N604.45± 19.25) while for Notional feathered birds cost was N502.00k± 12.01. Revenue was significantly highest for the frizzled feathered pullets (N690.44± 15.01).This result collaborates the data on profit margin, which was also highest for the frizzle feather pullets. In general, the frizzled pullet performed better than the normal feather and naked neck with regards to these growth characteristics and economic performances and may be more suitable for utilization in a humid tropical environment as pullet chicks.
