Effects Of Workers Performance On Organizational Productivity: A Study Of Selected Small And Medium Enterprises In Abia State, Nigeria.
ABSTRACT
The issue bordering on productivity and performance has become topical and occupy the center stage of
many discussions. However, its impact on the attainment of organizational and socio economic groth is
unarguable. This study examines the effect of workers performance on organizational productivity among
Small and Medium Scale enterprises in Abia State. The study specifically sought to identify soclo-economic
factors that influence workers performance and productivity, levels of productivity and constraints using a
sample of 120 respondents that were randomly selected. Descriptive statistics, productivity index and
multiple regressions were the tools of analysis adopted for this study. The results showed that most of' the
respondents are fairly educated, experienced and fall within the active age bracket. Also, age. income.
education, work experience, remuneration and labour inputs were statistically significant and therefore are
the major determinants of organizational productivity among workers. Again, there seems to he a gross
underutilization and existence of wide productivity gap among workers. Based on the findings. stuth
recommends enhancement of capacity building programs. adoption of ne' technologies. This is necessary
in order to increase workers efficiency and to bridge seeming the productivity gap. others are the institution
of a uniform organization performance standard and procedure for businesses in igeria among other
recommendations.
