ABSTRACT
The effect of amendment with two types of termite mounds on the Potassium fixation characteristics of five South Eastern Nigeria soils derived from coastal plain sands was studied. Unamended soil, soil amended with macrotermes mound and soil amended with microtermes mound were incubated with four levels of Potassium solutions for four days, and the exchangeable K extracted With one molar neutral ammonium acetate. Potassium not extracted by this extractant was considered fixed. Unamended soils fixed higher K than amended soils. When 7.5me K! bOg was added, Unamended soils fixed an average of 1.52rne K/100g while soil amended with macrotermes and microtermes fixed an average of 1.17 and l.50mc Kll0Og.
