ABSTRACT
The study focused on the effect of employees'
commitment on organisational productivity of Nigerian Breweries and Guinness
Nigeria Plc, (2008-2017). The study specific objectives were to: ascertain the
effect of individual commitment on organisational profitability, examine the
relationship between organisational commitment and organisational output,
evaluates the effect of commitment antecedents on organisational output, and
ascertain the effects of Nigerian Breweries and Guinness Nigeria Plc commitment
drivers on organisational profitability. The study adopted survey research
design, primary and secondary data were adopted. Multiple Regression and
Pearson Product Moment correlation were used to test the hypotheses posited.
Findings revealed that: individual commitment have positive relationship with
organisational profitability, organisational commitment are significant and
positively related to organisational output. Commitment antecedents have a
strong positive effects on organisational output, and commitment drivers are
significant and positively related to Nigerian Breweries and Guinness Nigeria
Plc profitability. The null hypotheses were rejected and alternative hypotheses
accepted. The study concluded that employees' commitment have a positive and
significant effects on organisational productivity of Nigerian Breweries and
Guinness Nigeria Plc within the periods under review. The study recommended
that the Management of Nigerian Breweries and Guinness Nigeria Pie should
regularly modify their work environment, organisational structure, and their
human resource policies to encourage employee's identification with their work,
careers and the values of their peers within the organisation, to modify
individual commitment and help employees to imbibe sense of cohesiveness with
their colleagues. Management should leverage on sound human resource policies
and inspired work atmosphere to encourage employees' identification with the
goals and values of the organisation, and internalisation of their supervisors'
values which is the embodiment of organisational commitment. Furthermore,
management should improve the effectiveness of their commitment antecedents by
enhancing the quality of agreement that exists between their employee's values
and interests and those of the organisation.
