ABSTRACT

This research is centered on effect ofinventory methods on the performance ofNigerian breweries. The research formulated three specific objectives; to determine the first in First out inventory valuation method on the return on assets, to evaluate the effect ofstandard price inventory valuation method on return on equity and to examine the effect ofweighted average inventory valuation method on return on investment. Thus, research questions and research hypotheses were structured in accordance with the specific objectives. In a bid to achieve a meaningful research study work, this research will review related literatures on the effect ofinventory methods on the performance which were sub-divided into three subheadings such conceptual framework, theoreticalframework and empirical review. However, in the quest to perfect this research; exfacto research design was adopted were data was sourced secondarily through annual report of Nigeria Breweries PLC which serves as the instrument. The data sourced covered the range of 2008 - 2018. Simple regression statistical technique based on E-view 8 was used to analyze the data collected. Thus, the followingfindings were made based on the analysis that FIFO inventory method has a significant impact on return on assets ofNigeria Breweries PLC, that SAP inventory method has a significant impact on return on equity ofNigeria Breweries PLC and that WAP inventory method has a significant impact on return investment ofNigeria Breweries PLC. Sequel to the findings and conclusion, the research made the following recommendations That Nigeria Breweries PLC and other manufacturing companies should employ the services of inventory experts to aid them in inventory evaluation planning in other to maximize the availability of inventory in the company, thatNigeria Breweries PLCand other manufacturing companiesshould use FIFO method in evaluating their inventories so asfirstpurchased inventories will not be out offashion for sales and Finally, it is recommended that WAP should be used to determine the sellingprice ofgoods and services. Thus, through WAP, current sellingprices ofproducts will be determined
