ABSTRACT

This study is an empirical investigation of the effect of Human Resource Accounting (HRA) on the profitability oflisted banks in Nigeria. To achieve this study, research questions were raised and hypotheses were formulated, and a review of related literature was made. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect ofHRA on the profitability oflisted banks in Nigeria. The study employed ex-post facto research design where data was sourced secondarilyfrom annual reports ofselected banks. Totalpopulation offifteen (15) listed banks in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) was studied with four (4) sample size which was estimated usingpurposive sampling technique. The data sourced covered the range of2014-2018. Simple linear regressions were used to analyze the data collected. Thus thefollowingfindings was made based on the analysis that there is a negative and significant relationship between Human Resource Cost (HRC) and Return on Asset (ROA) as well as between HRC and Return on Equity (ROE), there is a significant effect ofHRC and ROA oflisted banks in Nigeria and there is also a significant effect ofHRC and ROE oflisted banks in Nigeria. Sequel to thefindings and conclusion the research made the following recommendations that strategies should be effectively put in place to ensure selection, development and retention of high caliber talents required to achieve banks profitability target. Finally that CBN should put in place mechanisms for monitoring and enforcing the establishment and implementation of proper internal control measures and strengthen the role of board/statutory audit committees of banks in Nigeria to avoid unethical issues
