Abstract

This research work examined the effect ofcorporate social responsibility on organizational performance of First Bank Pic. Hypotheses were tested on the extent to which corporate social responsibility costs affect return on assets, the extent to which corporate social responsibility costs affect return on equity and the extent to which corporate social responsibility costs affectprofit aftertax. Ex-postfacto research design was adopted. Simple regression was employed to test the hypotheses. The results showed that the estimated coefficient ofthe regression parameters have a positive sign and thus conform to our apriori expectation. The implication ofthis sign is that the dependent variables Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE) andProfit after Tax (PAT) are positively affected by Corporate Social Responsibility Cost (CSRC). The study also revealed that there is a very high relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility Cost (CSRC) and the various dependent variables that is Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE) andProfit after Tax (PAT).The researcher recommends that firms should institute proactive waste management systems and structures that ensure that the disposals of the harmful byproducts in every aspect oftheir operations are properly handled. Such systems need not be compelled by government regulation, but should be voluntarily provided by the firms themselves. Also firms should ensure to put measures in place to reduce the nuisance of environmental pollution through abatement, as expenditures made on pollution abatement are normally off-set in the long run by the firms’ enjoyment ofa healthy and sustainable operating environment.
