Effect Of Corporate Social Responsibility Cost On The Profitability Of Firms In Nigeria. (A Study Of Selected Firms In Aba, Abia State (2003-2013))
ABSTRACT
This study examined the effect of cooperate social responsibility on the profitability of firms
in Nigeria using times series data from 2003 to 2013. The secondary data collected from the
selected firms' Financial Annual Reports and Nigeria Stock Exchange Fact Book 2012/2013
was analyzed and hypothesis tested using multiple regression analysis. The overall
significance of the model is showed in the table (significant = 382.250, 453.226, 40.028,
162.733 p<.Ol). This means that there is a significant relationship between corporate social
responsibility and profitability companies in Nigeria.
Also the study indicates that Return on Capital Employed had a significant and positive
impact on return on asset while Return on Equity and Return on asset ratio had a positive and
significant effect on Profit after tax. From the aforementioned relationship, this research
recommends that cooperate social responsibility will accelerate the overall performance and
profitability of firms in Nigeria. This among other things include; effective and sustainable
customer care and Environmental awareness capable of ensuring growth and development in
both the firms and environment they find themselves in should be adopted.
