ABSTRACT
The problems of
generator-motors are their time varying and non-linear dynamics because most motor speed control designs and techniques are limited with
internal problem of how to properly control the
dynamics of the motor drives and its response to applied loads. The research has
presented the dynamic modeling of generator- motor control for speed control. Generator-Motor data and Matlab
software were used for the study. Ward-Leonard system speed control
motor was implemented using different motor parameters in Simulink. It was seen that the steady speed observed when PID
was incorporated is at 240rad/s, while that when PI was incorporated was seen
at 250rad/s. But when simulated without controller, the steady state was seen
at 260rad/s and the critical point was seen at 1.5 seconds, which correspond to
the peak of the oscillations. Also simulating the armature current using PI and PID,
it was seen that oscillation start at 1.3 seconds and ended at 5.5 seconds. The
steady speed was seen to start from 6.0 seconds to 10.0 seconds. From the
graph, the peak of the oscillation for PI was seen to reach at 18 rad/s, while
that of PID was seen to reach 12 rad/s, and that without was seen to reach 24rad/s.
The research concludes that the overall behavior and stability of the entire
control system is influenced by the dynamic characteristics of the system, thus
an understanding of the steady state characteristics of a system became an
important aspect in determining the behavior and stability of such system, and recommend
that future researchers should use Fuzzy and Artificial Neural Networks to
examine the speed behavior of the generator- motor.
