ABSTRACT
Most dictionaries define forage as food for browsing or
grazing animals especially domestics livestock. According to Givens(2000)
forages are grown to b confirmed by livestock, provide habitat for wild life
and to protect the soil from crosion. Fo. tge maybe native or induced. The t\vo
main groups of forages are gr4sses and legumes Among the constraints facing
livestock development in Afiic, mad juate feed supplies stands out as one of
the most important. Seasonal variations ii feed q uantity and quality cause
fluctuations in animals nutrition and productivity throughout e year (Anderson,
1985) . Livestock depends on forage for survival , they also dpend on natural
browse, crop residues and agricultural by products especially during c rough
vhen green forage growth become limited. Since most farmers rear more anini ils
