Design, Construction And Testing Of Improved Woodstove For Industrial Cooking
ABSTRACT
The conventional tropical woods stove in use across Nigeria pose health and environmental challenges, and waste a large proportion of the generated heat and cannot be used for cooking large quantity of food. The design and construction of an improved wood stove present an attractive supplement to energy conservation strategy in Nigeria particularly where heavy cooking is required. They also offer a better safeguard for the health user. The particular wood stove under consideration for which improvement was done is the one designed by Ayo in 2009 .The design improvement of the stove was focused on the following areas: provision of adequate insulation across the walls of the combustion chamber, increasing the size of the air inlet to ensure the availability of sufficient air for the complete combustion of fuel wood, the incorporation of a long chimney to convey flue gases away from the place of use, incorporation of smoke rings at the top of the stove and the enlargement of the entire size of thestove. The results obtained gave higher efficiency value than the result obtained by Ayo.
