ABSTRACT
In this work an uninterruptible
power supply system that can be continually charged by the sun, has been
Constructed using a photovoltaic panel regulated to desired voltage. Source of
power input during the night time when there is no sunlight to support the
functioning of the solar panel, or during interruption of power supply is a
backup battery that sustains the system. The power source for charging the
backup battery may be from the conventional grid power supply like the Power
Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or from a standby generator. The storage
medium for this design is 12 volts, 62 Ampere hours sealed battery. This can
sustain a maximum load of 0.6KW for a reasonable number of hours with a power
rating of 744 watts. The time duration was evaluated during performance test.
For a fully charged battery, the time duration will be more depending on load
connected to the inverter
