ABSTRACT
This study intended to detennine the comparative effect of two selected teaching nethod via
lecture and discussion method on student's achievement in physics at secondary school (SS
11) in Umuahia North Local Government of Abia State.
To guide the study, three specific purposes, three research questions and one hypothesis were
formulated. A non-equivalent control group quasi experimental design was adopted for the
study. The population of the study comprised 493 SS 11 students in nine secondary school in
Umuahia North LGA. Four intact classes from four secondary schools were selected to give a
sample size of 150 students. A research developed instrument named physics achievement
test (PAT) was used to generate data for the study. The instrument was validated by three
experts in the collage of education at Michael Okpara University of agriculture Umudike. The
analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyzed the data obtained. The fmding of
the study reveals that there are significant difference between academics achievement of
students in physics when taught with lecture method. and discusson method .it is
recommended among others that physics teachers should be properly trained by government
through workshop and seminars on the important use of teaching method which are
appropriate to the different teaching and learning situation.
