ABSTRACT

The research was based on Business Plan and Survival of Small —

Scale Enterprises in Nigeria. Two selected firms in Umuahia

metropolis were used. It was discovered in the cause of this research,

that the common cause of the failure of small business is the absence

of business plan. Enterprises especially small- scale enterprises do

not have business plans or when they do; it is not well prepared. The

objectives of the study is based on the extent in which effective

planning will assist small-scale business industries toward achieving

their goals. are: The extent in which small-scale business industry

owners or managers make use of the tool of strategic business

planning. To find out the greatest problems of small-scale business in

developing business plans. The impact of environmental changes

towards the success of failure of small-scale business. The extent in

which small-scale business industries ploughed back, profit into their

business. The extent in which finance can be a contributing factor to

the success of small-scale business. In collecting information for this

research, two sources of data collection were used. They are primary

and secondary data sources. Primary data were gotten through the

use of questionnaires and oral interviews, while secondary data were

collected from libraries and other information centre. Three

hypothesis were stated and the three were tested which helped to

show ways through which business plan could be applied in the small

scale business for improvement The statistical tool chi-square was

used in testing the hypothesis while percentage was also used in

analyzing the research and other questions. It's recommendation is

that business plan should be prepared before any business takes off;

for the smooth running of the business. Profits made in the business

should be ploughed back to the business for expansion to satisfy

future customers.

Strategic planning approach should be adapted in the business for

long-term plan and environmental changes.
