ABSTRACT
Twenty (20) samples of suya meat were randomly collected from different selling points in umuahia for bacteria contamination. Cultures were made on Nutrient, Blood, MacConkey, and Mannitol salt agar and incubated at 370C for 24 hours from different serial dilutions after grinding the meat. The isolates were identified as Staphylococcus aureus (59.3%), Escherichia coli (33.3%), Klebiella species (3.70%), Coagulase negative Staphylococcus (CoaNs) (3.70%). The most frequently isolated organisms were Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli. The total viable bacterial counts ranged from 1.0x105 cfu/g – 5.0x105 cfu/g. The result revealed that the hygienic condition of ready to eat meat was low for human consumption
