ABSTRACT
The major purpose of the study was to determine the availability and utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching of Agricultural Science in Senior Secondary Schools in Abia State. Four research questions were stated in consonance with the purpose of the study and four null hypotheses were also formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Survey design was adopted for the study which was carried out in Abia State. The population was 13, 646 made up of 13,500 students and 146 teachers. Sample size of the study was 389, using Taro — Yamene's formular to draw sample size from the population across the education zones. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire titled. availability and utilization of ICT in teaching of Agricultural Science Questiormaire (AUICTTASQ) and face validated by three experts from Department of Agricultural and Home Science Education. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of 0.82. A total of 389 copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents but 381 copies of the questionnaire were retrieved and analyzed using mean and standard deviation for research questions and t-test for testing hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of this study showed that only very few ICT gadgets were available for the teaching of Agricultural Science in some Senior Secondary schools in Abia State and therefore were utilized. Based on the findings of the study and hypotheses tested, there was no significance difference and the researcher concluded that despite the numerous identified benefits of using ICT tools that are available in all schools, many challenges still hinder effective utilization of the few available ones.
